My adventure into network security is just now getting started into the real world. My skills of learning and the attention that network security requires, learning in the real-world situations is that being able to adapt, and change is necessary, and its something you have to do in this field. What attracts me to network security, is the safety and security of everyone who uses the internet and making sure people know what are malicious and or harmful situations that they could get into. By sharing my knowledge and what I know about the network security, hopefully I can share with others to make sure they are safe while browsing the web. There's a ton of information online about you and the millions of others who also use it, but who has this information is what is important and trying to mitigate the things that they can do with that data. Some of my intellectual influences in my life have been many of my professors at the university, including Mason Galatas and Aaron Jones. They have showed me the importance and the responsibility that network security that must go into protecting one’s network. The Great Hack has also shown me how they take information, and they distribute it to people via social media platforms to sway elections and other things that they want people to do. My undergraduate academic experience has shown me the importance of staying safe and keeping your personal data as hidden and or off the internet as possible. It has also shown me that most people out there, do not have the knowledge of how to stay safe while using the internet. So, making sure that they can protect themselves in any way possible is what keeps me driving forward. A couple of my academic accomplishments that have prepared me the most have to be going to the local high school and helping them set up servers and just attending conferences online such as cactus con that have taught me what software and hardware attackers use to be able to phish for the information that they want to get on you. In my time here at college and precollege, I have done tons of research and training with software’s and how to identify attacks that these attackers use. Knowing what they use and how they do it, is the best way to seek and mitigate the damages that these hackers could do. Knowing how to spot phishing email attacks, which is on the most effective way that the attackers get your information, is critical for any business and or for personal use. These are emails that look like they are trusted sources, but in fact are people pretending to be them so they can get your credentials. All of these practices and procedure that you can learn, can help protect you and others from losing valuable data. Some non-academic experiences that have contributed to me, are others talking about their times that they were scammed and or a victim of a certain attack. This has opened my mind to seeing the signs of attacks and hacks to make sure o can pass along this information to others that need it. Also, sometimes when I hear or talk to someone who has a sketchy link and or not a trusted one, I can go through these messages and identify certain elements that prove that they are faked and or they are malicious software trying to get into the computer. Everything I have learned so far in this field, I apply to myself, and most importantly to others in the world. My goal for this career is to help others. The community I live in, no matter where I might end up, their security while browsing the internet is what is most important to me!
